Another awesome year in the books!! Thank you to everyone that made it so great! We are ready for 2020!!
Angles, angles and more angles! We have learned a lot about cutting angles larger than 45o on our miter saw! We have used those angles to make some DIY Winter Magic! We made holiday Snowflakes! Garrett’s beautiful diamonds look like they came straight from the Elsa’s hand! And, mine has that rustic farmhouse charm! And don’t worry…if you watched the holiday stars video, we’re still sticking with the bigger is better theme!
Step 1: Gather Your Materials - Garrett's - 1” x 2” x 6’ pine common board 3 – fence pickets Waverly Chalk Paint – Agave & Truffle Waverly Chalk Paint – White Paint Brushes - Kim's - 1 - 1” x 2” x 6’ pine common board 3 – 1” x 4”x 8’ pine common board Waverly Chalk Paint – Truffle Waverly Chalk Paint – White Kreg Jig Kreg Jig Screws Sand Paper – 80 grit Step 2: Make Your Cuts - Garrett - - The diamonds were cut from the fence pickets, 3.5” at 45-degree angles. - The 1 x2’s were used to create the star base for the diamonds. Cut them at 9” and cut 60-degree angle tips. - Kim - - Kim’s used the 1 x4’s cut at 36” with 60-degree angle tips - We added wings on each end using the 1 x 4’s cut at 9” with 45-degree angle on one side. Step 3: Assembly - Garrett - - Garrett attached the 1 x 2 points together to form the star. He glued them tips together and added a 4” square on the back to attach the star. - He glued and nailed the diamonds onto the 1 x 2 star. - Kim - - We attached all of Kim’s 1 x 4’s together with pocket holes and kreg jig screws at the points. - We also added the star tips to the top of each board with glue, pocket holes and kreg jig screws. - We then added the 1 x 2’s to the inside of each star point and attached those with glue, pocket holes and kreg jig screws Step 4: Paint! - Garrett - - Garrett painted his Elsa blue…. I mean Agave! - Once dry, he used a dry brush technique to add a light layer of white over top. I think it looks like snow - Kim - - Kim painted hers with the Waverly – Truffle chalk paint. - Once dry, she added a coat of white over the truffle. - When both layers dried, we sanded the white to add the distressed look This week we are answering Viewer Comments. We get a lot of of questions about some of the tools and techniques we use. So, we thought we would give you out Top Five Crafter Tools, along with some DIY Tips and Tricks.

We created two versions of DIY rustic wood stars. The plan was to create something to sit on a table or shelf. Well, if you know Garrett, that was never going to happen, he only knows how to go big! But me….I had a vision that got bigger in real life! Let us show you how we made these beautiful stars, but maybe you can adjust yours to table top size.
