DIY Christmas Stocking Post

11/28/2019

Comments

What is up?!  Welcome Back!  This week we made a DIY Stocking Post and a North Pole!  For those of us that don't have a fireplace, we HAVE to have a place to hang those stockings!  So we made a post with enough hooks to hold at least 12 stockings!  We also re-purposed a hanging sign to make a North Pole post for our front porch!  Come take a look at how easy these are to make!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials! – We used plans for the Stocking Post from https://www.shadesofblueinteriors.com/diy-stocking-post/
And for Garrett’s North Pole:
1 - Turned Porch Post
1 - 1x12x48
1 - 1x8x48
1 - Hanging Sign (found on clearance)
2 – 4x4 post trim

Step 2: Make Your Cuts
Garrett’s:  Cut two 1x12’s at 11.25” to make two identical size squares and cut two 1x8’s to make two squares.

Step 3: Put it together!
Garrett’s: Glue the 1x12’s together to make a 2x12.  Glue the 1x8’s together to make a 2x8. Mark the center of each square and drill an 1/8” hole in the center of each.  We used a 3”deck screw to attach the stacked 8” and 12” bases to the bottom of the post.

Step 4: Paint!
Garrett’s: We used Waverly Chalk Paints in Pioneer Red, White, and Ink.

Step 5: Add the Accents! (say it with your best French accent)
Kim’s: We added a red and white candy cane striped bow.
Garrett’s: We found a hanging sign on clearance.  Garrett painted it white and added a North Pole vinyl decal.  We cut it using our Cricut Maker using Adhesive Vinyl – Red & Black.

This week, we’re continuing our holiday series, and seeing Green!  We created two versions of a Grinch Hand Wreath. We created one using our CNC machine and the other using our Cricut and Heavy Chipboard on a wood round.  Let us know which YOU like best!

Step 1:  Gather Your Materials
       - Garrett's Grinch Hand Wreath -
2' x 2' MDF Board
Craftsmart - Mint Green
DecoArt - Neon Green
FolkArt Chalk Paint - Pioneer Red
FolkArt Chalk Paint - White Adirondack
Waverly Chalk Paint - Ink
Paint Brushes

       - Kim's Grinch Hand Wreath -
18" Wood Round - (Local Hardware Store)
Heavy Chipboard
Knife Blade
Cricut Maker
Adhesive Vinyl - Red, White, & Green
Waverly Chalk Paint - Ink

- Bow Supplies -
2.5" Wired Ribbon x 4 patterns
Bowdabra Bow Maker

Step 2: Make Your Cuts
- Garrett -
- Garrett found a Grinch Hand image that he liked and created his own .svg complete with outline border.
- He imported and cut the image on the Inventables - X-Carve CNC machine.  (it's Like a Cricut for wood)

- Kim -
- Kim first imported the Grinch Hand image into design space.  The black shadow/base image had to be sliced.  The Heavy Chipboard is only 11" x 11".  And the design needed to be 12" tall.
- The .svg image contains layers for each color.  Each layer was cut on it’s appropriate color of vinyl.
- We also cut the stencils for the quotes.

Step 3: Paint!
- Garrett -
- Garrett painted the MDF with Acrylic and Chalk Paints.  He filled in the edging border with blank paint.

Step 6: Add Accents – Create Bows
- Garrett & Kim -
- We used 4 patterns of 2.5” wired ribbon
- Cut 3 strips of each ribbon at 24”.  Dove tail the ends of each.
- Create a 5” loop and pinch the center.  Twist one of the tails forward so both are facing in the same direction.
- Stack each ribbon, alternating patterns and loops.
- Secure them all together with 24” of floral wire.
- Fluff your bow!

The holiday season is upon us! I love to make personalized holiday gifts for friends and family! This week we're making a DIY personalized wine rack for only $10! The great thing about this wine rack is that it can be modified to hold more or fewer bottles of wine! We only used a 2x4 and a 1 x 12 and voila! Beautiful holiday gifts for friends or family! It's even nicer if it comes pre-filled! :) #dontbringjustonebottle #gobigorgohome

We added a shelf, some chalkboard paint, hooks and used our Cricut to cut some vinyl letters! We turned something old into something new and functional again!
